Bottom dump trailers are type of trailers used to haul heavy loads of loose materials that flow such as sand, gravel or salt. They function like dump trucks but discharge their loads in a controlled fashion through the center of the box floor. The gate at the bottom of the trailer allows the unloaded materials to be spread over a large area in large construction sites. Bottom dump trailers are varied in size, ranging from 20 feet to 42 feet long. They can be pulled by regular truck tractors and available in a wide variety of axle configurations.
