We do everything possible to make our auctions fair and transparent. Please read the following information before you bid and buy.

Registration and deposits

Registration to bid is free. You may be required to place a refundable bid deposit. Please be aware that you must present photo identification when you register at the auction site (e.g. identity card, passport or driver's license).

Every auction is unreserved

Every item is sold to the highest bidder on auction day, with no minimum bids or reserve prices. Owners are forbidden by contract from bidding on items they are selling. Bids are irrevocable, and all sales are final. If you're the highest bidder when the auctioneer announces that an item has been sold, you're the new owner of that item.

Everything sells "as is, where is"

We recommend that you visit the auction site to inspect any items you'd like to buy before bidding on auction day. You may also send someone to the site to conduct the inspection on your behalf.

Transaction fees for buyers

Please note: Effective October 1, 2022, our transaction fees structure has been adjusted; Each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of:

Canada

  • Except as noted below, each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of: (a) 10% on all Lots selling for CAD 12,000 or less, (b) 4.85% on all Lots selling for over CAD 12,000 up to CAD 75,000, with a minimum fee of CAD 1,200 per Lot or, (c) CAD 3,638 on all Lots selling for over CAD 75,000.
  • For on-farm auctions, regardless of whether you are bidding online or in person, each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of: (a) 10% on all Lots selling for CAD 12,000 or less, (b) 3.85% on all Lots selling for over CAD 12,000 up to CAD 40,000, with a minimum fee of CAD 1,200 per Lot or, (c) CAD 1,540 on all Lots selling for over CAD 40,000.

USA and Mexico

  • Each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of: (a) 10% on all Lots selling for USD 12,000 or less, (b) 4.85% on all Lots selling for over USD 12,000 up to USD 75,000, with a minimum fee of USD 1,200 per Lot or, (c) USD 3,638 on all Lots selling for over USD 75,000.

Europe (except United Kingdom)

  • Each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of: (a) 10% on all Lots selling for EUR 12,000 or less, (b) 4.85% on all Lots selling for over EUR 12,000 up to EUR 75,000, with a minimum fee of EUR 1,200 per Lot or, (c) EUR 3,638 on all Lots selling for over EUR 75,000. 

United Kingdom

  • Each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of: (a) 10% on all Lots selling for GBP 6,500 or less, (b) 2.35% on all Lots selling for over GBP 6,500 plus GBP 650 per Lot.

Middle East

  • Each purchased Lot will be subject to a transaction fee of: (a) 10% on all Lots selling for USD 12,000 or less, (b) 4.85% on all Lots selling for over USD 12,000 up to USD 75,000, with a minimum fee of USD 1,200 per Lot or, (c) USD 3,638 on all Lots selling for over USD 75,000. 

Australia and New Zealand

  • 7.5% of the selling price in the currency of the auction.The transaction fee applies to on-site, online and proxy purchases. All charges are subject to GST.

Japan

  • (a)10% on all Lots selling for JPY 1,000,000 or less, or (b) 3.85% on all Lots selling for over JPY 1,000,000 up to JPY 3,400,000, with a minimum fee of JPY 100,000 per lot, or (c) JPY 130,000 on all Lots selling for over JPY 3,400,000.

The transaction fee applies to on-site, online and proxy purchases.
A document administration fee will apply to all titled lots in the U.S. and Canada.

Payment and removal

Purchases must be paid in full within seven (7) days of the end of the auction.Buyers cannot remove their purchases from the auction site until their invoice is paid in full.
Cash payments will not be accepted. Please only pay from the same account from which you made the purchase.

If Ritchie Bros. can't deliver clear title on a purchase, the buyer is entitled to a full refund of the purchase price.
If Ritchie Bros. does not receive full payment within seven (7) days of the end of the auction, interest on overdue amounts will be paid by Purchaser at a rate of 18% per annum or at such other maximum rate as allowed by law, together with any legal or collection costs incurred by Auctioneers.

Title and Registration Certificates

Items purchased that require a Title or Registration Certificate must be paid for by cash or certified check on the day of the auction; all Titles and Registration Certificates will be mailed to the purchaser ten (10) banking days after payment is received.

Notices to Foreign Buyers

Purchases in the United States are payable in U.S. funds. Some equipment may require modifications to meet import and safety regulations. To avoid potential problems, please contact your customs broker for more information prior to bidding.

Notice To Vehicle Buyers

Some of the vehicles listed will be sold pursuant to vehicle code 24007.5, subsection (a) paragraph (2), and are available to licensed dealers and dismantlers only. "NO COOLING OFF": California law does not provide for a cooling-off or other cancellation period for vehicle lease or purchasing contracts. However, California law does require a seller to offer a two-day contract cancellation option on used vehicles with a purchase price of less than US$40,000, subject to certain statutory conditions. This contract cancellation option requirement does not apply to the sale of a motorcycle or an off-highway motor vehicle subject to identification under California law. See the vehicle contract cancellation option agreement for details.

Notice to all buyers purchasing titled items (including motor vehicle dealers)

A $65 documentation fee will be charged on each titled item purchased. All buyers purchasing titled items must speak to a Ritchie Bros. representative at the auction site to complete all government-required paperwork.
Residents of California: Sales of titled items are taxable at the rate applicable to the address where you reside.
Non-residents: Sales of titled items are taxable to non-resident buyers at the point-of-sale tax rate.

Combined Disclosure of Applicability for Truck and Bus, Off-Road, and PERP

When operated in California, any on-road heavy-duty diesel vehicle, alternative-diesel vehicle, off-road diesel vehicle, or portable diesel engine may be subject to the California Air Resources Board's Regulation to Reduce Particulate Matter and Criteria Pollutant Emissions from In-Use Heavy-Duty Diesel Vehicles, In-Use Off-Road Diesel Vehicle Regulation, or Airborne Toxic Control Measure For Diesel Particulate Matter From Portable Engines Rated At 50 Horsepower And Greater. It therefore could be subject to retrofit, exhaust retrofit, or accelerated turnover requirements to reduce emissions of air pollutants. Heavy-Duty (Tractor-Trailer) Greenhouse Gas Regulation

A heavy-duty tractor and 53-foot-or-longer box-type trailer operated in California may be subject to the California Air Resources Board Heavy-Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Measure. These vehicles may be required to use low-rolling resistance tires and meet aerodynamic equipment requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
