Golf carts or golf cars are motorized vehicles that are mainly used for transporting people and sometimes light equipment around. As the name suggests, the primary usage for these carts are for golfing by aiding in transporting the players and their golfing equipment. Other variations of golf carts can be commonly seen at airports, hotels or for personal useage for those that own larger properties. What are the different types of golf carts & club cars?
Gas vs electric
Golf carts are commonly made with 2 types of engines; electrical or gasoline engines.Gas golf carts function like a car and offer additional advantages over electric golf carts. For instance, gas golf carts typically have more power and have longer range.
Electric golf carts contains batteries that power an electrical motor. Battery size can vary from 36V or 48V with the higher battery capacity producing longer driving range. The biggest advantage of an electric golf cart over gas golf cart is the lower cost of maintenance mainly being attributed to the cost of gas itself and other common maintenance routines one would find in a car.
Body Style
Other than the commonly known body style of golf carts mentioned above, other variations of golf carts can include a trailer with a canopy for light hauling purposes, some may come with an elongated body to accommodate a few more seating rows and can carry up to a total of 6 people.
