What is a concrete mixing truck?

A typical concrete mixing truck is a 12-wheel truck that delivers either dry or wet materials, or pre-mixed solution, and can mix and transport concrete to construction sites. There are many names for this specific truck, such as "cement mixer" or "cement truck". However, in the construction industry it is known as a "concrete mixer", as it mixes the water, aggregate, sand or gravel, and cement to form concrete in an economic and efficient manner.

There are two types of discharge forms on your typical cement mixer truck, either front or rear discharge type. The rear being the most common as these types of trucks are most used for construction duties.

How many methods of batching are there?

There are three ways for mixing concrete in a truck mixer:

The first method involves the concrete being mixed on the job site where the materials are batched into the truck mixer and transported to the designated job site with the drum rotating slowly. Once it arrives at the work site the concrete is then completely mixed by the mixer truck.

The most common way or form of mixing concrete is at the transit mix plant. It is then transported to the construction site.

The final method of batching is mixing either the dry, wet, or premixed solution whilst in transit at a medium speed until reaching the job site.

What to consider when buying concrete mixer trucks?

The goal of a mixer truck is to deliver as much concrete as possible in compliance with local laws and regulations. Be aware that weight laws can change from different regions and that it can have a major impact on the truck specs that you are considering.

The engine in the mixer truck not only powers the truck to transport concrete to the job site but also pushes power through a PTO (Power-Take-Off) to turn the drum. Ideally, the engine should be light, with good fuel economy and have enough power to perform any job.
