RITCHIE BROS. ROLLS OUT NEW WEB SITE!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 16, 1997

VANCOUVER, B.C. CANADA - Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the world's largest industrial auctioneer, is pleased to announce the official rollout of their new and improved user-friendly web page! On December 16th, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers officially launched their new site -- located at www.rbauction.com. Customers are expected to laud the changes!

"We're really excited about the improvements to our home page and know our customers will be too," says Ken Dunn, Manager of Information Systems for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers.

"Now, users of our web page will be able to enter a profile of the equipment they are interested in," explains Dunn. "Then, next time they visit our site they will instantly see where and when we are auctioning off that type of equipment in the future. This saves them time and is more user-friendly for our customers."

The new site also features news on the company. This feature will allow users of the Ritchie Bros. web page to see company announcements, press releases and to even see recent articles that the media has written about Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. "Reporters as well as Ritchie Bros. customers will find this a handy tool," says Dunn.

Another added feature to the web page is that the auction brochures are displayed in full color. These brochures are direct-mailed to thousands of customers before each auction.

"Now customers will be able to see the brochure even before it arrives on their doorstep!" Dunn says.

As has always been the case for the Ritchie Bros. home page, customers can still see the up-to-date Ritchie Bros. auction calendar and they can look at equipment information at specific auctions as well as look into hotel and accommodation information.

A newly added feature to the web page also allows the user to print off a "sale-day catalog". Up until now, customers have had to wait until registration day to see what order the items would be auctioned off in. Now, before customers travel to the auction they can print themselves off an "unofficial sale-day catalog" and peruse it on the way to the sale (or even days before the sale!).

"All in all, we've listened to user-response and we felt that although our former web page was VERY helpful to our customers, we could still improve it," says Dunn. "That's why we are so excited about the roll-out of our new and improved web site. "

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers is the largest industrial auctioneer in the world, with over 50 offices and sale sites located throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, the Philippines and Japan. A Ritchie Bros. auction is a unique event. All Ritchie Bros. auction sales are unreserved, meaning there are no minimum selling prices, and every item is sold on sale day to the highest bidder, regardless of the price. It's an entertaining, fast-paced affair. The company's auctioneers are experts at keeping up the fast pace of the sale. They are highly skilled at working with the crowd, keeping the bids flying. There is no time wasted at a Ritchie Bros. auction. This energizing pace encourages active bidding, as buyers know that the "hammer" is about to fall.
