ATLANTA AUCTION MARKS NEW RECORD FOR RITCHIE BROS. AUCTIONEERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 23, 2002

ATLANTA, GEORGIA – With Gross Auction Proceeds of more than US$21 million, a two-day Ritchie Bros. auction held in Atlanta, GA was the Company’s largest sale ever at its auction facility in that city.

The September 19th and 20th unreserved public auction attracted bidders from around the world. Coming from 18 countries and 44 U.S. states, 1,408 registered bidders competed for 1,861 trucks and equipment items. Buyers from outside the state of Georgia purchased 62% of the items up for bid.

Of particular note was the high degree of online participation. Two hundred and forty seven (247) people registered to bid over the Internet using the Company’s rbauctionBid-Live service and were the buyer or runner-up bidder on over 14% of the lots available to the Internet. They logged on from 42 US states and 8 countries, and purchased in excess of US$ 2.4 million of trucks and equipment, representing approximately 12% of total Gross Auction Proceeds.

“We had a great response from our onsite and online attendees. As a result, prices were strong for the larger equipment, as well as the late model dump trucks and mechanics service trucks,” said Ken Duncan, Regional Manager for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. “Moreover, several of the consignors commented on the value of our full range of auction-related services. In one case, we arranged for transportation, and recommended and conducted refurbishing that helped bring the seller higher results than he had expected.”

Forty-three (43) upcoming auctions line the Ritchie Bros. auction calendar—most allow for real time Internet bidding. To view equipment listings and find out about online bidding, visit the Ritchie Bros. web site, www.rbauction.com.
