1. What is proxy bidding?

Proxy bidding, also known as 'absentee bidding', is a service for customers who are unable to attend an auction but wish to purchase one or more items in a specific sale. Proxy bids are maximum bids placed in advance of the auction; when you place a bid by proxy, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers bids on your behalf up to the maximum amount specified by you.

2. How can I place a proxy bid?

There are two ways to submit bids by proxy to a Ritchie Bros. auction - by filling out and faxing a proxy bidding form (available by request from any auction site), or on the Ritchie Bros. web site, with the rbauctionBid-Proxy service. Any qualified customer can place a bid by proxy by contacting the sale site. If you are an Express Bidder card holder you can place bids using the rbauctionBid-Proxy service. We encourage our customers to become Express Bidders - there is no charge for the service.

3. What do I need to submit proxy bids using the rbauctionBid-Proxy service?

To bid on-line using either the live or proxy rbauctionBid services, you must be a member of the Ritchie Bros. Express Bidder program, and have your corresponding PIN (Personal Identification Number). Your Express Bidder number and PIN are used for secure login access to both the live and proxy rbauctionBid services.

Not yet an Express Bidder? We encourage our customers to become Express Bidders - there is no charge for the service. Express Bidder application forms are available on-line.

Express Bidders: submit an on-line request to be contacted with your PIN.

4. Does Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers require a deposit before I can proxy bid?

Yes, we require a deposit of 25% of the amount being bid before the bid is accepted. Bids by proxy must be for a minimum of $10,000 and must be submitted sufficiently in advance of the sale in order to be processed.

5. How do I pay for my equipment?

All payments must be made by cash or certified check. Personal or company checks are acceptable only if they have an irrevocable letter of guarantee from your bank. Purchases under $10,000 dollars must be paid in full on the day of the sale.

6. Is there a charge for placing a Proxy Bid?

Effective January 1, 2003, each Lot purchased by a Proxy Bid will be subject to a Proxy Purchase Fee of 2% of the purchase price to a maximum of $500 per Lot. For auctions conducted in other than U.S. dollars, the maximum amount is 500 per Lot in the currency of the auction. The Proxy Purchase Fee applies only to successful Proxy Bids submitted using the rbauctionBid-Proxy service or the traditional fax-in Proxy Bid form. No charges or fees apply to unsuccessful Proxy Bids. The 10% administrative fee assessed on every lot selling for 2,500 or less continues to apply to all purchases.
