Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers - How to buy.

It's easy to buy at a Ritchie Bros. unreserved auction…

Interested in Items up for Bid at one of our Auctions?

All Ritchie Bros. auctions are unreserved and open to the public. Every item sells to the highest bidder as is, where is on sale days.

You can inspect the trucks and equipment at all of our auction facilities anytime before the sale. All items are organized in a logical fashion for easy viewing and comparison.

We're happy to make any service records and manuals that we have on hand available to you — for your convenience, these units are identified by a sticker on the machine and a note in the sale day catalog.

Plus, in most cases you can confidently put the machine to work immediately after the sale.

Can't Make it to the Auction?

Participate live and in real time over the Internet with rbauctionBid-Live. You can see an image of the equipment as it sells, hear the auctioneer call out bids and place your bids over the Internet, live and in real-time. New to live online bidding?

Or, you can place a bid by proxy with rbauctionBid-Proxy or by contacting the sale site. New to bidding by proxy?

Registering to Bid is Free

Before bidding, we ask you to register at the sale site. Registration is available several days before the auction and is free. In some cases, a deposit may be required.

When registering, you will be asked to complete the Bidder's Registration Agreement. This consists of filling in your name, address, the company you represent (if any) and banking information. You must also present a piece of photograph identification, such as a driver's license or passport. A letter of guarantee from your bank, cash deposit, or other form of satisfactory payment ability is required.

Complete registration information can be accessed online by choosing the auction of interest from the calendar drop-down list on the rbauction.com home page and clicking 'GO', then following the 'Registration Info.' link.

After you read our terms and conditions and sign your bidder card at the auction, you will receive a detailed catalog listing all the items with their descriptions in sale order. Your catalog has your designated buyer number on it, and any purchases that you make during the sale will be recorded with this number.

Check to see if the Catalog for the Auction of interest to you is posted online. This normally occurs a few days before the sale.

Auction Time!

The auction starts promptly (usually at 8:00am) in a comfortable, seated theater. After the auctioneer explains the terms and conditions of the auction, the mobile equipment items are driven across the selling ramp as they are auctioned. The pace is quick, with one item selling every 40 - 60 seconds! At the conclusion of the ramp portion of the sale, stationary equipment is auctioned. Interested bidders follow a sound truck around the yard as the auctioneer sells the items.

Tell Me About Bidding

The auctioneer announces the lot number and offers an ask price. If he does not receive a bid at this price, he will drop the price until someone starts the bidding. Bidding is easy - just raise your auction catalog!

One of our bid catchers, standing in front of the crowd, will relay the bid to the auctioneer. Bidding continues until no more bids are offered. The auctioneer will then announce the lot as SOLD, and the process starts over again on the next lot.

Every item in a Ritchie Bros. auction sells unreserved to the highest bidder on auction day.

I've Bought Something - Now What?

When you've finished bidding for the auction, you will receive an invoice listing all your purchases. Payment must be made within 7 days of the auction. Please note, for any lot selling for$ 2,500 or less (in the currency of the auction), a administrative fee of 10% will be charged.

In addition, if you made your purchases using the rbauctionBid-Live Internet bidding service, your purchases are subject to an Internet Purchase Fee of 2% of the purchase price to a maximum of $500 plus applicable taxes (in the currency of the auction) per lot. Purchases made by Proxy Bids are subject to a Proxy Purchase Fee of 2% of the purchase price to a maximum of $500 plus applicable taxes (in the currency of the auction) per lot. These fees apply only to buyers. Taxes on fees are applicable to all buyers. No charges or fees apply to unsuccessful bidders.
