More than 5.5 million people visited our website in 2012 to check auction results, bid online and search for equipment. These were the most popular equipment searches on rbauction.com:

  1. Hydraulic excavators (more than 1.1 million searches)
  2. Wheel loaders
  3. Truck tractors (T/A)
  4. Crawler tractors (a.k.a. dozers)
  5. Pickup trucks

Top five equipment types sold
More than 287,000 items were bought and sold at our industrial auctions around the world in 2012. By dollar value, we sold more hydraulic excavators than any other item—but when you look at number of items sold, pickup trucks topped the list with more than 8,500 sold:

  1. Pickups
  2. Truck tractors (T/A)
  3. Hydraulic excavators
  4. Van trucks
  5. Walk behind compactors

Top five construction equipment types sold
Our customers sold 5,700 hydraulic excavators at our auctions in 2012—more than any other type of construction equipment. Here are the top five types of construction equipment sold (by number of items):

  1. Hydraulic excavators
  2. Walk behind compactors
  3. Wheel loaders
  4. Crawler tractors
  5. Loader backhoes

Top five agricultural equipment types
We sold almost 1,000 combines at our auctions in 2012—enough to secure the number four spot on our top five list of agricultural equipment types sold. Number one on our list? Grain augers, with more than 2,300 sold:

  1. Grain augers
  2. MFWD tractors
  3. Livestock equipment
  4. Combines
  5. Headers

Top five manufacturers of equipment sold
No big surprise here: Caterpillar, the world’s largest manufacturer of construction equipment, topped the list of manufacturers of equipment sold at Ritchie Bros. auctions in 2012:

  1. Caterpillar
  2. John Deere
  3. Volvo
  4. Kenworth
  5. Komatsu
