What takes place at a Ritchie Bros. auction?
During the minutes prior to the auction, the auctioneer explains the terms of sale to the bidders. Then without hesitation, the items are driven across the auction ramp in lot order and the selling begins. The auctioneers maintain a steady pace throughout the day, helping you get back to your business sooner. The efficient and transparent ramp auction method along with the helpful bid-catchers, allow bidders to be fully informed and to keep on top of the bid and ask prices of trucks and equipment.

What if a buyer can't be there in person on auction day?
Ritchie Bros. understands that with your busy schedule you can't always be there on auction day. We offer several ways for you to make purchases without actually being there in person.

Many of our auctions are broadcast live on the Ritchie Bros. web site, rbauction.com. Our technology, called rbauctionBid-Live, allows you to bid live and in real time over the Internet on the pieces you're interested in.

Alternatively, proxy bids can be placed in advance of any Ritchie Bros. auction by fax or by visiting the rbauction.com web site. A proxy bid is the maximum amount you would like to bid for a specific item. When the bidding begins on the specified item, the auctioneer will bid on your behalf until either the item is won or your maximum bid is exceeded.

What happens once my equipment is sold?
Within minutes of an item selling in a Ritchie Bros. auction the new owners can make payment and arrange to remove their equipment from the auction yard. Because not all buyers pay for their new equipment in full on auction day, Ritchie Bros. maintains staff to collect the remaining proceeds. Payment is delivered to consignors accompanied by a detailed statement of account outlining their net proceeds from the auction.
